What courses does the Alemania language school offer?
We offer daytime, evening, and weekend courses, as well as private and corporate German courses. You can find all our offerings on our website. We are also an examination center in Zurich, Bern, and Lucerne, and offer suitable courses and preparation programs there as well.

How do I find the right course level?
You can take a free placement test online on our website or in person. Our teachers are also happy to advise you individually.

Are there courses for all levels?
Yes, Alemania offers German courses from A1 to C2 as a language school, and you can join almost any level directly at any time.

How long does a course last?
Our courses are divided into modules.
A1 - B1 consist of 3 modules.
B2 - C2 consist of 4 modules.- 5 times a week: 4 weeks
- Twice a week: 8 weeks
- Once a week: 12 weeks

How often per week can I attend a course?
Once, twice or five times a week, whatever suits you best.

How long does it take to reach a new language level?
With our courses, which run 5 times a week, you will reach a total level in 12 (A1, A2, B1) or 16 (B2, C1) weeks.
- A1 * 12 weeks, if you attend the course for 2 hours daily
- A2 * 12 weeks, if you attend the course for 2 hours daily
- B1 * 12 weeks, if you attend the course for 2 hours daily
- B2 * 16 weeks, if you attend the course for 2 hours daily
- C1 * 16 weeks, if you attend the course for 2 hours daily
If you study twice a week, the number of weeks doubles. If you can only attend once a week, you need to triple the time per level. -
Are there special courses for children or teenagers?
Our courses are primarily for adults. Young people aged 16 and over, and au pairs, can participate in our courses with parental consent.

Yes, anytime and free of charge, to learn about our method.

Can I also learn online?
Yes, we also have online courses that you can attend from anywhere in the world. We offer private lessons, Telc & SDS exam preparation courses, and conversation courses in small groups – which can also be flexibly combined with in-person courses.

When do the courses start?
You can join at any time. New levels start once a month. You can find all start dates on the website. However, you can book ongoing levels at any time.

How large are the groups?
Between 5 and 14 participants per course.

What happens if there are too few registrations?
Courses start with a minimum of 5 participants – if there are fewer registrations, we will inform you about alternatives in good time.

What do I do if I want to repeat a course level?
That's no problem at all – just report to the office.

Are flexible breaks between courses possible?
Yes, our system allows breaks after each course; you determine your own learning pace and can adjust it at any time to fit your everyday life.

How do I log on?
You can book directly online on our website, or you can register by email, phone, or in person at the counter. We are also available via WhatsApp.

Can I take a break or schedule a vacation during a course?
Yes, if you notify us up to 9 days before the course starts.

Just ask us – we'll do our best to find a solution if needed. As one of the largest private language schools in Switzerland, we offer courses at every level, with varying intensity and times. We're sure to find the right course for you!

Is it possible to join a course that is already in progress?
Our courses are very popular. As long as there is space, you can join an ongoing course at any time – just contact us!

What happens if I miss school several times?
Please inform us of any disruptions as soon as possible; we can usually find a solution.

Do you offer exam preparation courses?
Yes, we offer weekly exam preparation courses for telc and SDS.

How is the teaching structured?
Interactive, communicative, and practical. We understand that learning is most effective when you enjoy the lessons and have a clear goal in mind. In our courses, you'll learn effectively and consistently with a practical focus, so you can immediately apply what you've learned in your everyday life. Our teachers treat you as an equal, working together with you to improve your language skills. We have our Alemania teaching method, which guarantees rapid success.

What teaching materials are used?
We have developed our own Alemania course materials, which will be particularly helpful with regard to integration, living and working in Switzerland. We also use established German textbooks. You will receive information about the materials at the start of the course.

Is there homework?
Our German courses are designed to help you reach your goal as effectively and quickly as possible! Homework helps you deepen and solidify what you've learned. Plan on approximately one hour of homework per class day.

Is German practiced outside of class as well?
We recommend speaking as much German as possible outside of class. If you don't have much opportunity to speak German in your daily life, we recommend our online conversation courses to improve your speaking skills!

Can I take private lessons?
Yes, private lessons can be booked at any time.

Do you help with everyday problems (e.g., forms)?
For minor everyday problems, our teachers or reception team will be happy to help. For application documents or official letters, we recommend our private lessons!

Can I repeat the course later?
Yes, anytime.

How can I extend my course?
Your course will automatically renew at the level you have booked. You can book your next level using a continuation form, via our website, or by email.

Are you open in the summer too?
Yes, Alemania Deutschschule is also open during the summer holidays; the courses continue.

Are company courses offered?
Yes, tailored to the individual needs of your company, we'd be happy to advise you in a short video call and find the best and most cost-effective solution together. Whether it's in-house training at your company or a specialized course using your company's vocabulary. Over 5,600 participants have already learned German with Alemania at their companies.

How does the registration process for company courses work?
Please contact our office directly so that we can create an individual offer for German courses, or book a 30-minute call on the Alemania Language School's company website.

Are there conversation classes?
Yes, for targeted speaking practice from level A2 upwards, in small groups online or in person at all times – late in the evening, during your lunch break, or on your way to the office – practice your conversation. You can find all offers in our calendar on the website under Conversation Courses.

Are the courses accessible?
Yes, our schools are accessible for people with disabilities; we always have a wheelchair-accessible lift in the building and are happy to help you.

Do the courses prepare you for exams?
Yes, our courses generally prepare you for all recognized German language exams (telc, SDS, fide, Goethe). We also offer special exam preparation courses for telc and SDS.

What are courses and what are levels?
In short, we divide the A1, A2, B1, B2, C1, and C2 levels into several sub-courses, which you can then book. However, we always recommend booking and completing an entire level, as this will be more useful for your CV later on. Individual courses are suitable if you only have a specific timeframe of 4 or 8 weeks.

How much time should I set aside for the course?
Depending on the course, you'll have 3-10 hours of classes per week plus self-study. We have the Alemania CLUB for this purpose, where you can learn with other participants and have an experienced teacher available to answer your questions… all of this is FREE for you if you've booked a course with us. How much independent work is expected in addition to the lessons?
For optimal learning results, we recommend 1 hour of additional practice per course day. Take advantage of our CLUB offer or study together with friends from the course in the cozy cafeteria over coffee and a Snickers 😉

How do I find out which course is right for me?
Our placement tests will give you an initial direction; in addition, we are happy to advise you individually, tailored to your skills in speaking, writing, reading and grammar.

What is the latest date I can register for a course?
You can register at any time, however we recommend that you register at least 2 weeks before the course starts to guarantee yourself a place.

Who can help me if I have learning problems?
Our teachers are always available to advise you. Our club is included in the price for 18 hours of instruction.

How do teachers deal with cultural differences in the learning group?
Our teachers are trained in intercultural competence and design their lessons respectfully and openly to diverse cultural backgrounds.

Does Alemania also offer school events or activities outside of class?

How much does a German course cost?
Our courses typically last 40 hours and cost from CHF 290 per month.

How do I pay for my course?
You can pay online or directly at the office using a credit card or TWINT. Alternatively, you will receive an invoice upon registration. Installment payments are also possible; we will adapt to your financial situation and find a suitable solution with you. Don't worry about it. Use your time to learn instead.

Are there discounts?
Kulturlegi holders receive a 30% discount on all German courses. If you book and pay for four or more courses, you'll receive a one-time discount of CHF 100. We also regularly have limited-time promotions – it's best to ask at the office for details!

Are there any registration fees?
No, there are no additional registration fees. Generally, we have no hidden costs. After all, we'll be seeing each other regularly, and we want you to enjoy coming to our events.

A trial lesson is free and available anytime. Give us a call to find out which level and time you can attend. We're happy to help.

Can I pay in installments?
Yes, weekly or monthly installments are possible, tailored to your needs. Contact us and we'll be happy to provide you with a customized offer.

Can I cancel a course?
Yes, you can cancel the course up to 9 days before it starts; after that, the full course fee is payable. You will receive a refund for a cancellation fee of CHF 50. There are no fees for course transfers.

The course fee must be paid before the course begins. For payment in installments, please contact our office.

Will I get a refund if I'm absent?
In case of prolonged illness or accident, you will receive a credit which can be applied to future courses and exams.

What is included in the course price?
Lessons, individual course advice, certificate of participation, free club membership, one excursion per level > we treat every class to a drink at the end, and you'll find plenty of events listed on the school notice board. There's always something going on here, and we're happy to have you around outside of class as well. Feel free to use our cozy cafeteria.

After payment, you will find your paid invoice in your personal Alemania customer login and via email in your inbox.

Is VAT charged?
No, course fees and textbooks are exempt from VAT.

Can I pay for individual hours?
Private lessons and group courses are only available as a package. For payment plans, please contact our office. Alternatively, you can of course book and pay for individual private lessons.

The money will be transferred to your account after you submit the form.

Can I transfer credit to friends?
No, credit balances are not transferable.

Can employers pay for training courses?
Yes, we can issue an invoice to your employer upon request. Take advantage of this opportunity and convince your employer to contribute to the course costs; this often has tax benefits for both you and the company. We'd be happy to advise you on this.

What happens if I don't pay a bill on time?
We are sending you a friendly reminder, even a second and third time. Late payments may incur reminder fees.

Are other languages spoken as well?
Many languages are spoken in the office, and we can advise you in English, Spanish, Turkish, Albanian, Portuguese, Russian, Italian… the language of instruction will then be German. But don't worry, even if you don't speak a word of German, our Alemania method with our books guarantees a relaxed start for you.

Can I change teachers if it's not a good fit?
Free choice of teacher is only possible for private lessons. However, we will do our best to find a suitable solution for you – please speak openly with your teacher or contact the office.

Over 60-80 teachers at our three Alemania locations provide lessons from 8:45 am to 9:00 pm and courses on Saturdays.

Can I give anonymous feedback if I have problems with the teacher?
Yes, anonymously via our feedback form or by email to the secretariat. We treat all feedback confidentially.

Will my teacher remain the same throughout the course?
As a rule, yes, but our teachers also need holidays or are sometimes absent, then we are a team and cover for each other.

Can I postpone the exam in case of illness or accident?
Yes, a rebooking is possible upon presentation of a medical certificate.

How quickly will I receive my exam certificate?
You will receive SDS exam certificates within 3 working days at the latest; telc exam certificates are usually received within 3-4 weeks.

Yes, Alemania is an officially recognized telc, fide and SDS examination center with its own experts.
