No visa requirement for the following countries
However, there are countries whose citizens are exempt from the visa requirement, including the member states of the EU and the European Free Trade Association (EFTA). Visa categories
If you have a Schengen visa or a category C visa, you can enter Switzerland between 90 and 180 days. With this visa you can not only attend a German course, but also stay normally as a tourist in Zurich, Bern or Lucerne. Note, however, that the visa does not include a work permit. If you wish to work during your stay, you must apply for a separate work permit.
If the language course lasts longer than 90 days, it is necessary that you apply for a category D visa. To do this, you must first obtain permission from the migration office of the respective canton.
Apply for visa
To apply for a visa, here are some of the most important points:
- You will of course need a passport to enter the Schengen area. This must be valid for at least three months after the planned departure from the Schengen area.
- Before entering the country, you must take out health insurance. The minimum amount of coverage must be 30,000 francs. Attach a copy of the insurance policy to the application.
- The Swiss authorities want to make sure that you can support yourself during your stay in Switzerland. For this reason, you must provide evidence of corresponding assets. The authorities require at least 30,000 francs. You can prove this, for example, with corresponding bank statements or other bank documents. If you do not have such a large amount, you can submit a letter of commitment from another person.
- If you receive sponsorship in any way, you can use this instead of the required 30,000 francs.
- If you are attending a school or university, you will need an enrollment certificate. You can get these from us!
- The processing time for short-term visas is usually only a few days. However, if you are planning a longer stay in Switzerland, the processing time can take several months. It is best to apply for the Schengen visa at least three months before the scheduled start of classes.
