Exam Content
The fide-exam is taken as an individual examination and consists of two parts:
Oral Examination
Speaking Skills and Listening Comprehension
Written Examination
Reading Comprehension and Writing Skills
The tasks relate to situations of everyday life in Switzerland
The exam is progressive (it starts easy and gets more and more difficult to assess the language level):
participants register for the exam without an indication of their desired level. "Fail" does not exist
After completing the fide language certificate, you will receive a Language Passport (“Sprachenpass”) that shows the level you have reached (A1, A2 or B1) separately for oral and written competences.
The fide exam is necessary, if you
- have to prove your German at the request of an Office, for the naturalization process for Swiss citizenship or for the B or C settlement permit
- want a job where you have to speak German
- want to improve your knowledge of the German language
- need a certificate to prove your language skills

Number of participants
The number of participants is limited, registrations will be considered as they are received.
Examination information
You will receive a written invitation by e-mail at least three days before the exam.
Conditions
Depending on the respective examination organization, you will receive the examination result after 3 days from SDS and after 6 weeks at the latest from Telc. Fide language passports are sent to you directly by your provider.
Who can take the fide test?
All persons aged 16 and over.
People with a disability can also take the fide test. Special rules apply in such cases, which are agreed upon with the examining institution and the fide office.
What does the fide test cost?
The whole test costs CHF 250. The oral part only costs CHF 170.-, the written part only costs CHF 120.-.
How long does the fide test take?
The oral part lasts 40 minutes, the written part 60 minutes.
When will I receive the results / the Language Passport (“Sprachenpass”)?
You will receive the Language Passport and the test results directly by post approximately 8 to 10 weeks after the test. The examination centre and the fide office cannot give any information about the results over the phone.
